Job summary

Experience what it’s like to be a Red Hatter even from the position of an intern. The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for an OpenStack Storage Intern to join us in Raleigh, NC.  In this role, you'll be encouraged to contribute your ideas, help solve complex problems, and make a difference from your very first day. This internship will give you unique insight into life at Red Hat and the opportunity to build a valuable network of peers and professionals while contributing to our Red Hat OpenStack Platform cloud solution. Forget about mindless tasks or filling coffee cups. You’ll have real responsibilities the day you walk through the door. You will have the opportunity to participate in regular Red Hat programs, including lunch-and-learns with executives, volunteer opportunities, day trips, and different after work events.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Contribute to software and test development for our open source OpenStack cloud solutions
  • Program in Python in the open source Cinder or a related project
  • Perform test-driven development using a variety of DevOps tools and scripting languages
  • Collaborate on improvements and communicate with other team members

Required skills

  • Ability to work 10-14 weeks throughout the summer of 2018
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited computer science or software-related degree program or graduated no earlier than December 2017
  • Experience with programming languages like Python, C, Java, or Ruby; Python experience is a particular advantage
  • Ability to troubleshoot software problems and analyze software behavior
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work in a fast-moving, technical environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in software and technology fields
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration
