Job summary

The Red Hat Quality Engineering team is looking for a Principal Quality Engineer to join us in Westford, MA. In this role, you will work alongside some of the most passionate test engineers and software engineers in the open source industry to search for and analyze kernel defects and verify kernel bug fixes. You'll also investigate security functions and features and design test plans and perform the testing. We'll need you to have a balance of good technical skills and a passion for running cases and troubleshooting.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Investigate the features
  • Write, debug, and improve test cases
  • Carry out test cases and analyze the results
  • Verify kernel bugs and test case and tool automation
  • Debug software problems and create tools as needed
  • Collaborate with the Product Security and Kernel Development teams

Required skills

  • Solid background and skills with Linux
  • Knowledge of technologies like Linux Kernel, SELinux, Audit, Cryptography, Key Management , FIPS, etc.
  • Familiarity with Shell, Python, or C programming
  • Good debugging, troubleshooting, and analytical skills
  • Passion and desire for testing and examining how things work internally
  • Ability to remain patient and diligent when working on detailed tasks
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a global team
  • Multi-tasking skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of network, storage, and file system is an advantage
  • Experience with virtualization, containers, or cgroups is a plus
