    Job summary

    The Red Hat Customer Content Services team is looking for a Senior Technical Writer to join our AMQ Product Documentation team in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will be part of a team that promotes customer loyalty and success through content development and delivery. You will create and be responsible for customer-facing technical documentation that accompanies Red Hat’s offerings, which will be made available online through the Red Hat Customer Portal. You’ll define the scope of the projects, design quality tests, and deliver writing projects while maintaining a customer focus by participating in existing feedback programs and consistently developing your technical expertise. As a Senior Technical Writer, you’ll need to draw from your passion for both technology and communication. You’ll work closely with developers, engineers, field teams, support engineers, and other subject matter experts to create and edit content that helps our customers understand our offerings and find the best solutions for their needs.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Work closely with content strategists, engineering project teams, support teams, and other stakeholders to create and maintain high-quality documentation for upcoming releases of Red Hat's offerings
    • Effectively manage documentation projects and deliver customer-focused and goal-oriented documentation
    • Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
    • Keep up to date with changes to our offerings, customer use cases, and support issues
    • Provide consulting advice like peer reviews to other technical writers to help improve their content
    • Master the use of our versioning systems GitHub and GitLab and of our issue-tracking tool JIRA

    Required skills

    • Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science, or an arts or language field
    • Fluent written and verbal language skills in English
    • Experience writing clear and concise procedural documentation for a technical audience, including feature descriptions, user stories, and release notes using industry best practices
    • Experience editing procedural documentation for clarity and ease of use
    • Familiarity with Red Hat's and related industry offerings
    • Working knowledge of and experience with operating in a Linux environment using the command line
    • Experience with modular and topic-based documentation development
    • Ability to collaborate in a global team environment, actively engage subject matter experts, and follow through on commitments
    • Demonstrated ability to adhere closely to corporate style, terminology, and conventions
    • Curious and tenacious, unafraid to ask questions and follow through on tasks and deliver results
    • Proven interest in and aptitude for learning new technologies
    • Experience with agile and comfort with rapid iteration and fast delivery

    The following are considered a plus:

    • Familiarity with message-oriented middleware, including message brokers and data streaming platforms like Apache Kafka, APIs, and protocols
    • Familiarity with AsciiDoc and lightweight markup editors like Atom and gedit
    • Understanding of open source principles and open source community dynamics
