Job summary

Play a critical part in making OpenShift by Red Hat product documentation a competitive differentiator. The Red Hat Customer Content Services team is looking for a Content Strategist to the Red Hat OpenShift Product Documentation team in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you'll oversee the creation and implementation of a comprehensive strategy that defines content standards to support key business objectives and develop strategies for achieving those standards. You will define processes and policies to enable rapid adoption of new content specifications in response to stakeholder and customer demand. As a Content Strategist, you'll work closely with our product management and product marketing groups, engineering and development teams, content services teams, and our customer experience groups to ensure our content meets the needs of all internal stakeholders and provides an outstanding customer experience.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Assess audience requirements, conduct research and gather input from stakeholders and customers, and clearly understand and communicates market and business priorities
  • Establish consistent content plans that are supported by all stakeholders, including product management, product marketing, field teams, support services and the content development teams; plans include a standard set of content to be produced for each product release, the structure of each book or piece of content, and guidance on documentation best practices and implementable by documentation teams
  • Curate content for display on the product page on the Red Hat website for each product release
  • Work with marketing and product marketing to influence the customer experience and align the product documentation with launch messaging
  • Act as a single point of contact for stakeholders, report content team status, and negotiate changes to deliverables and schedules, provide phase exist sign off to program management teams, communicate and get buy-in for the content plan from all relevant stakeholders
  • Negotiate and get agreement from the Documentation Program Manager on the highest priority content to be delivered, conduct regular checkpoints on how that content is being developed and delivered, and guide alignment between content produced and the customer requirements
  • Create an open working relationship with writers, influence and facilitate the adoption of content plans by writers
  • Influence the usability of the product and work with the user experience team to define in-product content and terminology
  • Conduct competitive analysis and review usage metrics to provide recommendations on content standards, needed improvements, and content gaps
  • Incorporate feedback from customers and other stakeholders into continual improvement efforts of content and of processes and standards
  • Work with Support Product Leads to establish "content readiness" for new product releases and to review content highlights and challenges during quarterly service reviews and program meetings
  • Understand and advocate for the role of content in the success of a product

Required skills

  • 5+ years of experience working with enterprise software documentation as a technical writer, information architect, or content strategist
  • Bachelor's degree in English, technical writing, communication, or a closely related field
  • Familiarity with Red Hat's enterprise solutions portfolio and related industry offerings
  • Experience working with diverse sets of stakeholders to solve complex problems
  • Ability to influence, regardless of job title
  • Experience in the enterprise software industry, including an understanding of the customer life cycle
  • Experience with Agile and comfort with rapid iteration and fast delivery
  • Ability to read, write, and compile technical documents, including feature descriptions, customer use cases, and release notes using industry best practices is preferred
  • Experience with topic-based documentation is an advantage
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes, microservices, and containerized applications is a big plus
