    Job summary

    Join one of the fastest growing enterprise software and services companies and the leader of open source software. The Red Hat Customer Experience and Engagement (CEE) team is looking for an experienced, customer-focused OpenStack Software Engineer with expertise in Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) to join us in the United States. In this role, you’ll help identify and resolve enterprise-level software issues for some of Red Hat's most strategic customers in North America. You will help the team to resolve issues quickly and efficiently. As an OpenStack Software Engineer, you will partner with development engineering and work alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source community.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Partner with development engineering to create, patch, and resolve significant customer defect, usability, and supportability issues in features of Red Hat OpenStack as well as propose product improvements
    • Develop and maintain one or more Red Hat OpenStack package
    • Collaborate with customers via remote sessions as required
    • Provide Level 3 support to a dedicated subset of customers requiring high touch and fast resolution
    • Work alongside professional services and sales to provide better support to customers with enthusiasm
    • Contribute to the technical support team directly as an expert in the Red Hat OpenStack technology through collaboration on critical and strategic customer issues
    • Demonstrate considerable judgment in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions
    • Maintain a commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat customers
    • Assist in the development of comprehensive and reusable self-service solutions for future incidents

    Required skills

    • Bachelor's degree in a technical field; engineering or computer science is preferred
    • 5-10 years of significant software development experience‚Äč as a support or development engineer
    • Experience working with and deep understanding of IaaS platforms and cloud computing
    • Linux operating system installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance experience
    • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
    • Fluent in several programming languages, including Python, C, Ruby
    • Packaging experience with distributions using RPM
    • Ability to create quality documentation
    • Develop and maintain one or more Red Hat OpenStack packages
    • Experience and understanding of both Red Hat OpenStack Platform
    • Passion for open source software development; upstream involvement in open source projects, including patches submitted for upstream inclusion is preferred
    • Keen eye for good architecture and the ability to develop new architectures
    • Focus on test-driven development with good knowledge of unit testing frameworks and methodologies
    • Ability to read and understand existing code to address and resolve bugs, write patches, and make progressive changes where required
