    Job summary

    The Red Hat Marketing team is looking for a Marketing Communications Specialist to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will be responsible for the strategic planning, delivery, and management of Red Hat's user conference, Red Hat Summit. You'll be accountable for all aspects of the program, from messaging to metrics. This is a great opportunity for an experienced and creative professional with demonstrated success in creating, guiding, and carrying out large industry-transforming user conferences. You'll be the practical operation lead in the day-to-day management and delivery of all aspects of the event planning, including budgeting, team and vendor management, contract management, and analysis and reporting. The primary location for this position is Raleigh, NC, but we’re open to qualified remote candidates.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Manage a comprehensive events program with 7,500+ attendees, 315+ breakout sessions, 130+ sponsors, and numerous targeted events; manage a vendor team with over 20+ team members and multi-million dollar budget
    • Identify overarching event agenda, programs, and experiences required to support strategy and overall attendee goals and experience
    • Determine a 3-5 year strategy and attendee growth model
    • Guide an internal cross-functional team to use the infrastructure and processes required to successfully carry out the event strategy and objectives
    • Create, guide, and manage a comprehensive timeline and RACI for the core and extended teams and all vendors; communicate important deadlines to team weekly
    • Act as the conduit and consultant for all event production and management, including audio-visual, internet, mobile applications, registration, housing, space allocation, and all other aspects
    • Manage all suppliers from initial briefing through on-site delivery; oversee external relationships which support direct efforts and collaborate closely to develop and successfully carry out events
    • Guide the entire event production strategy and organization for a wide variety of programs and audiences like the Partner Summit, Executive Exchange, Press Program, and Analyst program
    • Work with the Marketing Communications team on communication plan and editorial calendar
    • Guide the core and extended teams' workstream meetings internally in addition to weekly vendor operations meetings
    • Actively work with the Creative, Brand, and Customer Reference teams to produce the attendee journey while consulting on how to make that experience come to life and advise on the impacts of production of the overall event
    • Continue the evolution of personas, supporting attendee journeys and experience needs to ensure high satisfaction scores and value around our events, while supporting the needs of Red Hat in terms of new markets and segments
    • Define the overall event virtual, content release, and 365 engagement strategies and experiences beyond simply the time period of the physical events
    • Define and lead a global sponsorship framework that supports all of Red Hat and regional level events to present value to our key partners
    • Develop a governance model of internal on-site attendance
    • Create a robust on-site customer experience for our most important customers
    • Monitor, measure, and report event implementation and results

    Required skills

    • Ability to manage multi-million dollar budgets and provide exceptional tracking and monitoring while working with corporate finance; ability to understand the big picture while still attending to important details
    • 5-7 years of experience in successful event management experience, in a B2B, high-tech, and fast-paced environment
    • Sound management skills of budgets over $5 million
    • Ability to manage your own workload and actively flag any issues to management
    • Leadership and management expertise in bringing together large internal and external teams to organize an excellent event; committed to managing vendors and internal teams
    • Passion and experience for managing a 5,000+ user or developer conference with multiple events
    • Solid approach to understanding program results and measuring impact
    • Ability to thrive on teamwork and overcome obstacles together
    • Solid project management and interpersonal communications skills
    • Good sense of humor and ability to interact with others
    • Creative thinker; open to idea exploration with solid problem-solving skills
    • Familiarity with Google suite of tools, including Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Sheets, Presentations, etc.
    • Willingness to travel 20% annually
    • Fluent English language skills
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
    • General knowledge of suppliers, new technologies, and industry standards
    • Ability to source appropriate suppliers for the required job; ability to give suppliers specific and detailed feedback and negotiate with suppliers on behalf of Red Hat
