    Job summary

    Assist with global data privacy and protection matters. The Red Hat Legal team is looking for an experienced, motivated, and detail-oriented corporate Attorney to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you’ll need to have an ability to thrive in a fast-paced, challenging, and constantly evolving environment. You’ll work as part of the Legal Compliance team and you’ll interact directly with business teams and relevant stakeholders on data protection compliance issues in a manner which will earn their confidence and trust. You’ll need be able to manage multiple complex matters at the same time and provide advice and guidance to an entrepreneurial and rapidly expanding organization across geographies, cultures, and functions. You’ll also need to have a passion for working collaboratively with others. As an Attorney, you will have the opportunity to gain meaningful familiarity with Red Hat's global business and will quickly become an integral member of the Legal team. You’ll become a member of a team of senior legal professionals to advance and support Red Hat’s growth strategy and outstanding corporate governance around the globe.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Develop, implement, and manage compliance and risk mitigation strategies relating to global data privacy and protection laws; this will include policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations like the GDPR and related data transfer regulations, security incident response planning, management, and remediation, vendor privacy and security assessment, and employee awareness and training
    • Provide support on data privacy and protection issues for the teams engaged in the negotiation of contracts with customers and vendors and the development of Red Hat’s offerings and services
    • Work cross-functionally and collaboratively to assess potential privacy risks and implement regulatory requirements to ensure compliance with applicable laws and international frameworks
    • Develop a solid network of relationships inside and outside of the organization to support the objectives of the Legal team and the business

    Required skills

    • 3+ years of experience working as a practicing attorney, with 2+ years providing legal guidance on privacy and data protection matters gained in a law firm or in-house; preference will be given to candidates who have international privacy law experience within a major law firm or multinational technology company
    • A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or equivalent from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited law school and an active license to practice law
    • Experience interpreting regulatory requirements and implementing privacy compliance programs to meet such requirements, with excellent drafting skills and a solid understanding of risk assessment and management
    • Comfortable untangling and analyzing complex legal issues; pragmatic approach to resolving them
    • Solid project management skills
    • Experience interfacing with state and federal agencies and international regulatory bodies
    • Excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable dealing with all levels of our organization and able to persuade others in a growing, global business
    • Skilled at managing competing priorities effectively and recommending and implementing improvements to team or enterprise practices and processes
    • Proactive approach to recognizing needs and anticipating issues
    • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) certification is a plus
