    Job summary

    The Red Hat OpenShift team is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join us in Westford, MA. In this role, you will contribute to the Red Hat OpenShift Developer Platform, built on Linux containers and the Kubernetes cluster management system. You’ll provide tools for developers to efficiently build next-generation cloud-native applications. You’ll work as part of the OpenShift Developer team, which is about passion for technology and development. You’ll help the team build a system that is changing how development is done. You'll need to be able to work in a fast-paced, startup-like environment, with the goal of contributing to one of the most innovative cloud computing projects. As a Software Engineering Intern, you will also get to work on real business challenges. You’ll have the opportunity to come up with solutions to these problems. You’ll work on various phases of software development life cycle including requirements, design, and code and deploy your application. You’ll be able to showcase your expertise and learnings to the leadership of Red Hat.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Work as a team, understand the requirements, brainstorm, and come up with innovative solutions to the given business problem
    • Participate in various discussions along with a mentor to shortlist and finalize solutions
    • Design the approach and architecture with the help of a mentor
    • Implement solutions and deploy them
    • Demo your work and showcase MVP to leadership
    • Work with the following technologies on a day-to-day basis; we can help you learn as long as you have the flexibility to apply your knowledge and experience to tools like Docker, Kubernetes, web application development, distributed computing, and Linux and UNIX operating systems
    • Develop code using tools like Go, Java and JavaScript (AngularJS and React.js), and other OpenShift-supported languages like Python
    • Communicate with community members through IRC, forums, and email

    Required skills

    • Practical experience with web or application programming, or equivalent university coursework
    • Ability to communicate at an intermediate level in English as part of a global team
    • Object-oriented programming experience
    • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms

    The following are considered a plus:


    • Previous code contributions to open source projects or code samples on GitHub
    • Participation in HackerRank, Outreachy, or Google Summer of Code Contributions to open source projects
    • Familiarity with data science techniques and analytics
