    Job summary

The Red Hat Legal team is looking for a Global Lead Counsel focused on commercial transactions to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will manage the full range of legal responsibilities associated with the global commercial transactions process. You'll oversee negotiations and support legal issues associated with Red Hat’s commercial transactions with customers, partners, and procurement-related matters. You’ll need to have excellent people management skills because you will be managing a global team of lawyers and contract specialists who are also supporting commercial transactions in major Red Hat’s geographic regions. As a Global Lead Counsel, you will be the principal advisor to the Executive Vice President of Sales and Services and the senior management teams and a leader in the Legal team.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Manage and oversee legal strategies and resolve issues associated with Red Hat’s commercial transactions
    • Develop and maintain agreement playbooks, policies, and internal guidance
    • Manage the commercial transactions legal team and provide firm leadership and career development for regional counsel and their teams
    • Serve as a principal advisor to senior sales and services leaders by participating in management meetings to ensure a connection between business objectives and the challenges of sales and services teams
    • Lead complex, multidimensional projects and problem resolution that span legal, business, and functional objectives
    • Develop and implement innovative process and policy improvements that align with business needs

    Required skills

    • Lawyer with 15+ years expertise in global strategic counseling, transactions, policy, and program development
    • Diverse experience in a wide variety of legal jurisdictions as a successful negotiator in cross-cultural business contexts
    • Record in implementing operational enhancements
    • Background developing, recruiting, hiring, motivating, and integrating high-performing teams, establishing performance goals, monitoring results to meet strategic objectives, and reorganizing to improve effectiveness
    • Experience building and leading cross-functional teams to implement business goals, including contracting efficiency, integration of acquired entities, and contract simplification projects
    • Substantive experience in global anti-bribery laws
    • Significant experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating the full range of contracts
    • Comprehensive knowledge of risk areas for complex commercial agreements
    • Solid experience in contracting law for multiple jurisdictions (U.S. and foreign), including U.S. public sector contracting
    • Experienced in the selection, evaluation, and management of outside counsel and management of disputes and commercial litigation
    • Ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work, and adjust to frequent workload fluctuations
    • Enjoy working in a rapidly changing environment and comfortable navigating through ambiguous situations
    • Ability to proactively solve problems with a focus on achieving results that benefit our business
    • Knowledge of how to effectively guide cross-functional projects and collaborate with diverse colleagues, customers, and internal teams
