    Job summary

    The Red Hat Customer Content Services team is looking for a Technical Writer with experience working on enterprise-level software and multi-product solutions to join our Red Hat as-a-service team of writers. In this role, you will become a subject matter expert on the Red Hat Smart Management suite of offerings and create great content to help customers install, configure, monitor, maintain, develop on, and understand how the offerings integrate with other Red Hat’s technologies. You'll create and be responsible for the feature documentation, user guides, and all required content that accompany Red Hat’s offerings, which will be made available online through Red Hat Customer Portal. You will help define the scope of, quality test, and deliver writing projects while maintaining a customer focus by participating in existing feedback programs and continually developing your technical expertise. As a Technical Writer, you will be expected to thrive and closely collaborate with your developer and product management teams during rapid development and go-to-market phases, and focus on the customer needs even when there's a lack of clarity or final strategy. Drawing from your passion for both technology and the English language, you'll work closely with developers, engineers, and other subject matter experts to create content that helps our customers understand our offerings and solutions. This position could be filled in Raleigh, NC, Westford, MA or, optionally, as a remote position. You will be working with some remote and some co-located team members.     Primary job responsibilities

    • Work closely with other writers and engineering, support delivery, business, marketing, and field teams and UX designers to produce and maintain high-quality documentation for upcoming releases of offerings
    • Engage with customer and internal feedback to address content gaps, act on direct feedback, and promote continuous improvement of customer documentation experience
    • Participate in the design and development of product features and UX designs, including specification creation and reviews
    • Keep up to date on the development of continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) offerings, customer use cases, and support issues by integrating with other internal teams
    • Effectively manage documentation projects and deliver customer-focused documentation
    • Master the use of our powerful internal documentation toolchain, including the publishing platform and issue tracking tools
    • Communicate with subject matter experts, including developers, quality and support engineers, program managers, and content strategists
    • Collaborate and contribute to Customer Content Services initiatives and cross-team work

    Required skills

    • Familiarity with lightweight text-based markup languages, particularly AsciiDoc
    • Prior web-based application experience, either as a developer, quality engineer, or a writer of developer-focused docs
    • Ease and flexibility in acquiring new skills and learning new tool sets
    • Proficiency with Git, which is essential for collaborating with our cross-functional team of content contributors
    • 3+ years of technical writing experience with samples and writing tests
    • Experience working with remote and global teams
    • Familiarity with topic-based authoring (modularized topics) and minimalism principles
    • Proven experience learning or researching complex systems on your own
    • Experience managing the documentation development life cycle


    The following are considered a plus:


    • Power user-level skills in Git
    • Solid information architecture skills and experience designing and building docs sets for multi-product solutions
    • Open source software or community experience
    • Familiarity with or experience using of the IBM style guide
