    Job summary

    The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Application Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will work as a member of a team responsible for running the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings available on cloud.redhat.com, including Red Hat Insights. The team members you will be working with love teaching others about the latest technologies and how best to manage production services at scale. You’ll need to have a passion for coding, enjoy automation, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. You’ll also need to be friendly, collaborative, and curious, with a love for learning and teaching as both a mentor and a mentee. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Engage in and improve the whole life cycle of services which range from inception and design, through deployment, operation, and refinement
    • Support services before they go live through activities like system design consulting, developing software platforms and frameworks, capacity planning, and launch reviews
    • Mentor teams and engineers on SRE best practices like monitoring and alerting, workload distribution, and fault tolerance
    • Maintain services once they are live by measuring and monitoring availability, latency, and overall system health
    • Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity
    • Participate in on-call rotation with other engineers supporting Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) offerings on cloud.redhat.com

    Required skills

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a technology-related discipline
    • 5+ years of experience in software development and engineering
    • Fluent in a programming languages like Python, Go, Java, or C
    • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, or Red Hat OpenShift; you'll need to be skilled in at least one of these areas and capable of learning the rest quickly
    • Experience using logging and monitoring tools like Grafana, Splunk, Prometheus, and NewRelic
    • Outstanding communication and documentation skills in English
    • Ability to work in a globally distributed team


    Experience with the following are considered a plus:

     

    • Managing production services with Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes
    • Developing a Kubernetes controller, operator, or platform component
    • Implementing continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipelines for highly available applications
    • Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) software
    • Open source software
    • Linux systems administration
