    Job summary

    The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a skilled Intern to join our OpenStack Storage team in Boston, MA. In this role, you will help with the development of our open source storage solutions.This internship will give you unique insight into life at Red Hat and the opportunity to build a valuable network of peers and professionals while contributing to our Red Hat OpenStack Platform cloud solution. This summer internship will give you the opportunity to gain real-world experience using your development skills to help create the next generation of tools for Red Hat. You will have the opportunity to participate in regular Red Hat programs, including lunch-and-learns with executives, volunteer opportunities, day trips, and different after work events.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Contribute to software and test development for our open source Red Hat OpenStack Platform cloud solutions
    • Program in Python to implement changes in Cinder, the OpenStack Block Storage Service and its related libraries
    • Collaborate on improvements and communicate with other team members as part of a distributed team

    OpenStack Cinder Project

    The OpenStack Cinder project maintains continuous integration (CI) platforms and tests that are used to ensure quality of Cinder drivers for numerous storage backends and for the Cinder service itself. As part of this project, you will learn how OpenStack automated testing works, create new tests for the behavior of Cinder and Cinder drivers, and work on new infrastructure to enable new types of testing, such as robustness testing for high-availability deployments.

    Required skills

    • Ability to work full-time hours for 10-14 weeks during the summer of 2020 in the location listed (Westford, MA)
    • Currently enrolled in an accredited computer science or software-related degree program or have graduated no earlier than December 2019
    • Experience with programming languages like Python, Go, C, Java, or Ruby; Python experience is a big plus
    • Ability to troubleshoot software problems and analyze software behavior
    • Highly motivated with the ability to work in a fast-moving, technical environment
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Interested in software and technology fields
    • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
    • Good interpersonal skills with a focus on collaboration
    • Ability to accept constructive criticism without taking it personally and be comfortable with having your work reviewed in public by the Red Hat OpenStack Platform community; you will also have the opportunity to constructively criticize the work of other software engineers
