    Job summary

    The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to work on our metering open source project, joining us in San Francisco, CA. You will be a part of a small, experienced team, that is creating a solution to be used for Kubernetes. Metering is written in Go, gathers data from Prometheus, and uses SQL to analyze the data. You will be supported by a team eager to develop easy-to-use, innovative products. You should have the ability to work in a particularly fast-paced environment.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Work with the existing team to develop the next set of features and capabilities for the metering operator  
    • Write SQL queries and code in Go
    • Improve build and release processes
    • Review code from other project contributors
    • Work in collaboration with other teams that our project integrates with to ensure the experience is seamless

    Required skills

    • Required Skills
    • Ability to work full-time hours during the summer of 2020 in the location listed (San Francisco, CA)
    • Familiarity with Docker,and a container orchestration platform, e.g., Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, etc.
    • Knowledge of relational databases and writing SQL queries
    • Experience with Go and Bash
    • Knowledge of Git


    The following are considered a plus:

     

    • Some knowledge of distributed storage concepts, e.g., GlusterFS, Ceph, Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS)
    • Familiarity with time series databases like Prometheus, InfluxDB, Graphite, OpenTSDB, etc.
    • Troubleshooting of complex issues in distributed systems
    • Interest in cloud service providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, etc.
    • Experience running and using Java and JVM server applications
    • Understanding of restful HTTP APIs
    • Experience contributing to open source projects or being an open source maintainer
