    Job summary

    The Red Hat Public Sector Consulting team is looking for an Application Development Architect to join us. In this role, your primary responsibility will be to passionately guide the adoption of Red Hat's solutions in our key enterprise accounts, government agencies, and service provider partners. Through a series of both in-person and remote interactions, you’ll build the trust and confidence of customer engineering, development, and operations teams by aligning their requirements and use cases with the functional capabilities of our solutions. As an Application Development Architect, you will work together with customers in small teams to build, test, and iterate over innovative application prototypes attached to real business value. You'll use a variety of modern application development practices, along with emerging technologies from the communities of open source, to get it done. You will join a team of subject matter experts who co-create innovative software solutions using emerging technology and modern software design methods. You will be responsible for teaming with customers and partners to accelerate their application development project or infrastructure deployment and to teach them new ways of working together to deliver business value and new capabilities. As you do so, you will create infectious enthusiasm for building great software using the principles of open source culture. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business. 

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Lead public sector modernization of customer environments from a technology adoption perspective
    • Guide cultural transformation by leading by example
    • Lead with our customers the implementation of application prototypes and rapid development methodologies, covering domains like microservices, API management, and web-scale architectures; DevOps engineering and application delivery; agile methodologies and ceremonies, container-based continuous integration (CI) and delivery (CD); cloud automation, and everything-as-code (infrastructure, configuration, documentation, etc.)
    • Create measurable hypotheses tied to business value, and design a solution that tests those hypotheses to help our customers quickly realize their business goals
    • Become a trusted advisor to our customers by advising through their technical strategy

    Required skills

    • 7+ years of technical experience
    • 1+ years of leading a technical delivery and technical direction of a project
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, systems engineering, or equivalent experience
    • Experience with Linux systems administration
    • Experience with monitoring and logging solutions like Splunk, EFK, or ELK stack
    • Experience with Git as a version control system
    • Experience with configuration management tooling like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
    • Experience with scripting languages like Python or Bash
    • Experience mentoring junior developers in DevOps practices
    • Contributor to an open source community
    • Applied knowledge of working in agile, scrum, or DevOps environments and teams
    • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or other container tools
    • Experience leading successful software development in disconnected environments
    • Solid verbal, writing, and presentation skills
    • Passion for open source software
    • Willingness to travel to customer locations up to 50%
    • U.S. citizenship is required
    • Active Top Secret SCI clearance is required


    Experience with the following DevSecOps tools is considered a plus:

    • Build automation like Apache Maven and Gradle
    • CI tools like Jenkins, Travis, Bamboo, and GitLab CI
    • Testing tools like JUnit, Selenium, and Apache JMeter
    • Code quality tools like SonarQube, CAST, and Coverity
    • Static scanning like Fortify
    • Binary repositories like Artifactory or Nexus
    • Application performance monitoring like Jaeger, Zipkin, or AppDynamics
