    Job summary

    The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Quality Engineering Intern to join the OpenVSwitch Quality Engineering (QE) team in Westford, MA. In this role, you will work with network technologies and traffic generators to integrate a solution into a GitHub open source code project. You’ll work with performance engineers and quality engineer associates to integrate a Python solution into an existing code base. As a Quality Engineering Intern, you'll need to be motivated, curious, and have a passion for problem-solving, Linux technologies, and open source.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Learn and understand the traffic generator interfaces and APIs
    • Work with performance engineers to integrate a new traffic generator into an existing code base to generate traffic and follow specific request for comments (RFC) guidelines
    • Test, review, and submit patches to others for review into the code tree

    Required skills

    • University or college student in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, or physics, currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program with
    • 2+ years remaining before graduation
    • Familiarity with Linux systems
    • Knowledge of network protocols and design
    • Experience with Python and Bash
    • Motivated with the ability to quickly learn new technologies
    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

     

    The following are considered a plus:

     

    • Familiarity with traffic generators and socket response programming
    • Familiarity with Git or other version control systems
    • Familiarity with virtual switch technology
