    Job summary

    The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Software Engineer with a solid technical background in virtualization technologies to join us in Westford, MA. In this role, you will work on open source system-level virtualization projects like libvirt and QEMU. You will focus primarily on low-level application programming in C, but should be flexible and willing to experiment with new technologies and programming languages in a rapidly changing field. You will have the chance to work with the latest technologies in virtualization, containers, storage, and networking for several CPU architectures. As a Software Engineer, you will cooperate with engineers both inside and outside of Red Hat in distributed open source projects.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Work as part of a distributed team with several remote team members
    • Design and develop new features and fix bugs for open source KVM virtualization projects like libvirt and QEMU, with an emphasis on storage technologies, including storage APIs, device emulation, network block and file-system storage, etc.
    • Review patches and provide feedback on the community-oriented enhancements and bug fixes
    • Contribute automated tests to continuous integration (CI) systems

    Required skills

    • Solid skills in C and relevant coding experience
    • Good understanding of and experience with Linux system internals and systems engineering, including virtualization and storage experience with containers is a plus
    • Interest in modern programming languages like Rust and Go; proven experience with these languages is a plus
    • Understanding of open source development; active open source contributions are a big plus
