    Job summary

    The Red Hat R&D team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in Sunnyvale, CA. In this role, you will oversee the direction, design, and implementation of our innovative technology. You’ll participate in the solutions release cycle and in the formal requirements and engineering response processes to coordinate open source requirements and expectations. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will also contribute to open source projects while delivering enterprise-ready offerings based on these projects that are suitable for use by our customers.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Design, develop, and test enhancements for Red Hat Ceph Storage based on analysis of user feedback
    • Collaborate with the the Engineering, Quality Engineering, Product Management, and Documentation teams, product build teams, and the open source community
    • Communicate and coordinate dates, deliverables, feature requirements, and roadmaps for Red Hat Ceph Storage with the project community
    • Monitor and help fix issues identified during functional, non-functional, platform, and acceptance testing as well as customer-identified issues
    • Monitor and maintain the continuous integration (CI) builds of the offerings
    • Submit patches for bug fixes to the community and review patches from other community members
    • Represent Red Hat Ceph Storage and Red Hat via presentations and participation at conferences and other events
    • Mentor and provide feedback for other core Red Hat Ceph Storage engineers and quality engineers

    Required skills

    • Master’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in computer science or a related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in a related role, or bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in computer science or a related field and 5 years of experience in the job offered or in a related role
    • 2 years (with a master’s degree) or 5 years (with a bachelor’s degree) of experience with C and C++, Python, and JavaScript; Git; working on Fedora, Linux-based OS and CentOS; Docker and container technologies; large-scale (i.e., designed to run on hundreds of nodes) distributed system projects; working concurrently on multiple software projects under tight deadlines; communicating effectively across a global or, multi-office, development or testing team; Red Hat Ceph Storage; contributing to an open source project and community; sharing knowledge of open source work via public forms like presentations
