    Job summary

    The Red Hat R&D team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us in San Francisco, CA. In this role, you will oversee the direction, design, and implementation of our innovative technology. You’ll participate in the solutions release cycle and in the formal requirements and engineering response processes to coordinate open source requirements and expectations. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will also contribute to open source projects while delivering enterprise-ready offerings based on these projects that are suitable for use by our customers.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Design and build cross-cloud provisioning tools
    • Design and build Kubernetes operators responsible for reliably managing, configuring, and upgrading clusters across various environments
    • Create software services in Go which automate the life cycle of distributed applications
    • Develop Kubernetes operators that adhere to existing upstream standards, conventions, and APIs
    • Codify best practices by creating tools, SDKs, and utilities which will enable and accelerate the development of distributed services
    • Interact and engage with the open source community, helping users and shepherding contributions
    • Adhere to good development practices when reviewing code and writing tests

    Required skills

    • Master’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in computer science or a related field and 6 months of experience in position offered or a related role
    • Prior experience must include Go and Bash; developing tools that use Linux container technologies including cgroups, namespaces, and Docker; writing software that builds on core Kubernetes internals like API conventions, reconciliation behaviors, and distributed system design concepts; managing and debugging Kubernetes clusters in production environments; developing tools for provisioning and configuration management that interact with cloud infrastructure technologies, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP); administering system networks including the TCP/IP stack, DNS, HTTP(S), and network security; troubleshooting software in distributed systems, including consensus and failure modes; working on distributed teams with responsibilities including design, planning, code review, testing, and on-time delivery of complex multi-team projects; using GitHub workflow to collaborate with development teams; and solid comprehension of computer science fundamentals, object-oriented design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
