    Job summary

    The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our User Experience Design team in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will define the user experience vision and direction for an offering or group of offerings. You’ll work with a set of interaction and visual designers, researchers, and developers to deliver on user experience needs for these offerings. You’ll be expected to work closely with product management and product engineering teams to build and explain the user experience roadmap. You’ll need to be a user experience expert with an ability to identify user experience needs and enable the team to fulfill these needs to improve an offering. As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll also need to have prior experience with complex enterprise applications that are highly technical in nature.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Work with stakeholders around the company to understand our offerings to build great experiences with them
    • Guide and participate in research that can help define the best experience for developers using these technologies and capabilities
    • Build a user experience vision and roadmap for our offerings in tandem with UX and product management
    • Use our PatternFly design system for building design flows; identify gaps in the design system for contributing back to help it meet all business needs
    • Lead a team of interaction designers, visual designers, researchers, and frontend developers toward the defined roadmap goals
    • Clearly understand and articulate the information architecture, workflows, and processes surrounding user experience
    • Mentor and review work of designers
    • Work closely with researchers to validate design direction
    • Work with developers to implement strategies that ensure technical success

    • Ability to adjust leadership style to a variety of situations; inspire, encourage, and challenge others
    • Adaptable to changing conditions and unexpected obstacles, modifying work methods in response to new information to accomplish organizational goals
    • 7+ years of experience with the user interface design process and methodology
    • Experience with agile development methodologies
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in interaction design, visual design, human computer interaction, human factors, computer science, or a closely related area
    • Candidates must present a portfolio of user experience work; include links to work within your resume
