    Job summary

    The Red Hat Customer Experience and Engagement (CEE) team is looking for a Software Maintenance Engineer with a background in Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) technologies to join our Support Engineering team in the U.S. In this role, you will provide high-level technical support and sustaining engineering services to maximize uptime and reduce IT costs for enterprise customers. You’ll work closely with customers, developers, and architects, while also collaborating with Red Hat OpenShift support engineers to solve complex and challenging technical issues. You'll regularly partner with engineering teams and work alongside some of the brightest developers in the open source community. As a Software Maintenance Engineer, you will also partner with key strategic cloud partners to jointly solve multi-vendor customer issues.     Primary job responsibilities

    • Partner with the Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Red Hat OpenShift Online, and OKD communities to develop and review patches and test cases
    • Analyze upstream development against current customer reported defects and develop patches to resolve issues
    • Serve as the direct contact and adviser for customer inquiries about Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform through a customer portal, phone, and using remote access tools
    • Use tools like cURL, strace, Wireshark, kernel crash analysis, and Git to investigate and resolve technical issues with CRI-O, networking, system performance issues, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, and RESTful API calls
    • Record customer interactions, including investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues
    • Work closely with Red Hat development engineering and assist production support engineers and technical account managers
    • Manage incident and issue workloads to ensure that all customer issues are handled and resolved in a timely manner
    • Assist in the development of comprehensive and reusable self-service solutions for future incidents
    • Maintain a commitment to providing the best experience possible for Red Hat customers

    Required skills

    • Bachelor's degree in a technical field; degree in engineering or computer science is preferred
    • 5+ years of experience as a support or development engineer for Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) provider or a hosting service
    • 10+ years of demonstrated experience with Linux or Unix operating systems
    • Experience working with hosted applications or large scale application deployments
    • Experience with CRI-O, Kubernetes, Open vSwitch, JBoss, Apache Tomcat, Go, AngularJS, Python, and .NET
    • Experience with developer workflows, continuous integration (CI) paradigm like Jenkins and continuous deployment paradigms
    • Good understanding of Linux tools with an emphasis on cURL, kernel crash analysis, strace, Wireshark, and the use of Git
    • Experience writing patches and submitting Git pull requests
    • Development-level experience with programming languages like Go, AngularJS, Python, .NET, and C are a big plus
    • Upstream involvement in open source projects, including patches submitted for upstream inclusion, is a plus
    • Red Hat Certified Engineer certification is a plus; certification will be required within 90 days of hire
