Principal Software Engineer

The Red Hat Office of the CTO Advanced Telco Enablement team is looking for a team-oriented Principal Software Engineer to join us in the U.S.. In this role, you will assist with partner related engineering engagements. You will contribute to partner enablement projects that may include partner requirement discovery, partner ecosystem proofs of concepts (PoCs) integrated with Red Hat’s platforms, direct engineer to engineer guidance, alignment, engineering activities, and future design and development of Red Hat’s platform, amongst other similar tasks. Your work will directly enable our strategic telco and service provider (SP) partner concepts and offerings. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will help create the next generation of telco and SP related offerings as part of a geographically dispersed multi-national team. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.

• Work closely with engineers on the Office of the CTO Networking team to develop future looking telco and SP features and PoCs
• Interact with project managers, partner managers, and platform engineers from multiple teams within Red Hat and within open source communities
• Advocate internally for feature development of and support for strategic partner next generation offerings
• Design and develop feature code needed to support strategic partner next generation offerings  
• Provide the Red Hat brand voice for partnered development activities
• Mentor and educate junior level team members
• Contribute to the success of the Office of the CTO Networking team by sharing your work and expertise with the team

• 10+ years of industry experience working with enterprise software development
• 5+ years of industry experience working in partner or customer facing engineering role  
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
• Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to directly interact with partners
• Ability to quickly learn and work on a daily basis with technologies like Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Red Hat Openstack Platform (RHOSP), and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (RHOCP) 
• Experience in contributing to or participating in open source projects
• Experience with distributed systems design and development
• Ability to function in a dynamic and advanced technology environment
• Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language such as C, C++, Rust, Golang
• Experience with real-time programming, container development, and virtualization
• Experience with cloud computing or cloud-native
• Experience with OpenShift and OpenStack
• Experience with RHEL, Fedora, or CentOS development
• Experience with software-defined networking (SDN) or network functions virtualization (NFV)
• Experience with scripting and embedded software or system
• Experience in production telco or service provider environments as a network operator or vendor is a big plus
• Experience with open source community is a plus
• Experience with network software development, OSS, and BSS is a plus
