    Job summary

    The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us in San Francisco, CA. In this role, you will work on our metering open source project. You will be a part of a small, experienced team that is creating a solution to be used for Kubernetes. You will work on the solution that uses in Go in its metering, gathers data from Prometheus, and uses SWL to analyze the data. You will be supported by a team eager to develop easy-to-use, innovative offerings.

    Primary job responsibilities

    • Work with the team to develop a solution for metering; take the project from an initial release to a GA offering
    • Write SQL queries and coding in Go
    • Improve build and release processes
    • Review code from other project contributors
    • Collaborate with other teams that our project integrates with to ensure that the experience is seamless
    • Embrace the fast-paced working environment

    Required skills

    • Familiarity with Docker and a container orchestration platform, e.g., Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, etc.
    • Solid knowledge of relational databases and writing SQL queries
    • Experience implementing and improving continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipelines; we use a combination of Jenkins and other custom systems
    • Knowledge of Go and Bash
    • Knowledge of Git


    The following are considered a plus:

     

    • Well-versed in distributed storage concepts like GlusterFS, Ceph, and Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS)
    • Knowledge of Hadoop ecosystem
    • Familiarity with time series databases like Prometheus, InfluxDB, Graphite, OpenTSDB, etc.
    • Troubleshooting of complex issues in distributed systems
    • Cloud provider experience e.g. Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, etc.
    • Experience running and using Java and Java Virtual Machine (JVM) server applications
    • Experience implementing restful HTTP APIs
    • Experience contributing to open source projects or being an open source maintainer
