Job summary

The Red Hat Ansible Content team is adding a passionate and motivated Software Engineer to help shape Red Hat's Ansible Automation Platform integration with cloud technologies. In this role, you will develop Ansible plugins, modules, and roles that integrate with Red Hat OpenShift and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management components. You'll join a very talented and internationally-distributed team of software engineers that focus on Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RHACM) automation use-cases. The Red Hat office in Durham, NC is a preferred location for the role, however, experienced home-based remote engineers will also be considered.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Create new features in Python for specific Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management integration use cases with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform; contribute these features to upstream projects
  • Submit patches for bug fixes to the community; review patches from other community members
  • Work closely with lead architects and product managers to deliver the relevant content based on desired use cases
  • Write unit and integration tests and understand debugging software
  • Actively participate in code reviews with the team
  • Define test strategy by reviewing requirements, architecture, and design documents
  • Educate the team on new features by pull request reviews or small team presentations and demos
  • Work with the Quality Engineering (QE) team to ensure that projects are tested correctly
  • Publicize the work the team is doing via blogs, web postings, or conference talks

Required skills

  • 4+ years of experience developing Python-based applications or closely related experience
  • Excellent understanding of Kubernetes and OpenShift Container Platform
  • Experience developing features against REST and API endpoints
  • Experience with Linux-based operating systems
  • Knowledge of automation practices and principles
  • Experience with continuous integration (CI) systems
  • Ability to work independently in changing environments and the willingness to learn new technologies
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, IBM Cloud, etc. are preferred
  • Golang programming experience would be helpful, but not required
