Job summary

The Red Hat Digital Experience Platforms team is looking for a Front-End Software Developer to join us in the U.S. In this role, you will help build and maintain web applications on the Red Hat Customer Portal, specifically our documentation management, publishing, and front-end platforms. You’ll also help develop and maintain our library of user interface (UI) components used throughout the Red Hat web properties. You will work with internal and customer-facing software, write code, review pull requests, fix bugs, and participate in agile development while using some of the latest front-end technologies. You'll need to be someone who is smart, friendly, collaborative, curious, and passionate about front-end development. Work location is flexible, with the Red Hat offices in Raleigh, Boston, or Westford, MA preferred; however, remote, home-based engineers located on the U.S. East Coast will also be considered.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Develop, support, and maintain web applications on the Red Hat Customer Portal
  • Develop components for a web component library
  • Ensure feasibility of UI and user experience (UX) designs
  • Collaborate with backend developers to build data models
  • Review and test code with team members
  • Communicate and demo new applications and features with stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other developers across multiple departments and technology stacks for cross-team projects
  • Work with business staff to correctly implement required features

Required skills

  • 3+ years of web development experience
  • 2+ years of application development experience
  • Expertise with modern JavaScript (ES6+)
  • Experience working with front-end JavaScript frameworks like Angular, React, Vue, Polymer, etc.
  • Proficient understanding of web standards, semantic HTML markup, and CSS
  • Understanding of CSS preprocessors like Sass and LESS
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards
  • Proficient understanding of Git
  • Excited to learn and utilize the latest front-end technologies
  • Understanding of browser differences and how to overcome them
  • Experience with Linux or UNIX platforms, as well as XML, XSD, and RESTful APIs is is a plus
  • Experience working alongside Apache Sling or Java is a plus
  • Experience with technical documentation tools like AsciiDoc is a plus
  • Proficient in unit testing and end-to-end testing with tools like Mocha, Chai, Selenium, and BrowserStack is a plus
  • Experience with infrastructure tooling like Hudson, Sonar, and Selenium is a plus
  • Participation in open source software projects is a plus
  • Experience templating in an enterprise content management system (CMS), like Drupal, a plus
