Job summary

The Red Hat IT Communications team is looking for an experienced Internal Communications Specialist to join our growing team in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will partner with IT associates and the Red Hat Internal Communications team to assist with IT communication efforts. You’ll help develop and implement effective IT communication strategies and create and publish a variety of content including newsletters, intranet pages, videos, podcasts, and more. In addition, you will help grow the IT brand through communication inside and outside of IT. As an Internal Communications Specialist, you should have impeccable written and verbal communication skills and be able to create engaging content for a variety of IT-focused internal channels. You’ll need to be goal-oriented, organized, detail-oriented, and customer-driven. You should be a self-starter and able to work as a part of a team with experience in and passion for communications and marketing.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Develop content in partnership with Internal Communications and other IT teams to tell the broader IT story and communicate relevant and timely news and announcements
  • Help maintain a communications strategy and editorial calendar, map audiences for the variety of needs encompassed in IT
  • Ensure that all communications sent from IT to major corporate channels are on-brand, on message, and high quality
  • Train IT associates on IT brand, voice, and style strategy
  • Manage IT intranet pages for Red Hat audience and internal IT audiences
  • Assist with cross-functional IT Communications Advisory Board meetings
  • Plan and fulfill internal events and communications related to IT’s mission, strategy, and priorities
  • Write and distribute IT newsletter via email and intranet
  • Coordinate with other associates to develop digital communications, multimedia, and scripts
  • Help build the IT brand inside IT and outside of IT

Required skills

  • Ability to work as a part of a team and take on a leadership role in managing initiatives, working across organizations, and structuring approaches to new opportunities
  • Proactive in identifying new opportunities, solving problems, and prioritizing efforts
  • Solid technical acumen and experience in an IT environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills
  • Demonstrated exceptional writing and editing skills; ability to write for multiple audiences and optimize content for different channels of communication
  • Expert in writing, editing, proper use of AP style, grammar, and punctuation, and confident in the ability to edit others’ work and give diplomatic feedback; ability to accept and incorporate others’ feedback regarding your own work
  • Excellent presentation skills and experience managing other speakers
  • Excellent customer focus and listening skills
  • Solid project management and organization skills; detail-oriented
  • Ability to track, incorporate, and prioritize input from multiple parties while maintaining meaning and quality 
  • Adaptable, flexible, and ability to cope with ambiguity and to work effectively and creatively in a complex organizational setting 
  • Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple, concurrent tasks while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience and success working with organizational and external partners or customers to support their communications efforts 

Preferred Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in communications, journalism, writing, or editing 
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, English, or a related field required 
  • Working knowledge of HTML and WYSIWYG intranet platforms
