Job summary

The Red Hat Products and Technologies PMO is adding an experienced Program Manager to our team in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you'll manage strategic programs to successful completion from initiation through delivery and closure, using your collaborative mindset and passion for motivating and supporting global, cross-departmental program teams. This position will be responsible for the execution of programs and projects, including collaborating with senior leaders to establish value-based strategic direction, identifying and engaging stakeholder teams, determining timelines for execution, managing risks and inter-team dependencies, building strong working relationships and establishing effective communication channels. The ideal candidate will also have experience in supporting a project portfolio, including collecting and aggregating data points, contributing to executive-level reporting, and a focus on achieving business results.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Establish program team structure and governance to deliver solutions to address complex business problems or opportunities
  • Work with program teams to create metrics to measure the value the program or projects create, demonstrating attainment of strategic goals
  • Lead planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting activities for all aspects of the program, including financials
  • Facilitate the definition of program objectives and deliver a detailed plan from inception to operational hand-off
  • Formulate, organize, and monitor inter-connected projects
  • Lead the program team in developing and implementing strategy
  • Work with management to ensure project pipeline grooming and estimation are carried out with precision to inform project portfolio and resource capacity
  • Promote transparency and manage program change using repeatable methodologies and clear communication with project stakeholders from all levels of the organization
  • Establish and maintain clear, consistent stakeholder communications at the program level and for certain projects aligned to the program
  • Ensure the program working team makes progress against the established plan to include tracking high-level program budget and headcount cost
  • Continuously evaluate program for roadblocks, gather feedback on solutions, and present insights
  • Prepare project documentation, ensuring completeness, and store and maintain appropriately throughout the project
  • Integrate and use specific industry and company-standard PM and technical delivery methodologies
  • Ensure program solution is successfully delivered and the solution meets original expectations and is complete
  • Perform retrospective and lessons learned at various intervals during, and at the conclusion of projects; identify people, process, and technology improvements to be made as a way to elevate the performance of future project teams
  • Educate other project team members and stakeholders on the project lifecycle process and agile methodologies through formal and informal training
  • Gain consensus for decisions and ensure delivery of high quality results
  • Build relationships, delegate, and empower team members, and collaborate with various functions throughout the organization

Required skills

  • 5+ years of experience in a program management role combined with 7+ years of experience managing technical projects
  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP), PgMP certification, or equivalent certification
  • 5-10 years of experience delivering technology-related services or offerings
  • Record of successfully managing high-complexity programs in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams
  • Outstanding verbal and written English communication skills; solid interpersonal and leadership skills and analytical abilities
  • Experience managing agile and waterfall style projects
  • Ability to work effectively across a widely diverse management team, as well as a broad spectrum of internal partners
  • Detail oriented and able to work in a very fast-paced environment
  • Ability to articulate the program and project management value proposition and be an evangelist for PM techniques and Products and Technologies PM methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to employ critical thinking to manage business strategies
  • MBA or Bachelor’s degree in a related field

The following will be considered a plus:

  • 3+ years of experience working with agile teams
  • Practical experience using the Linux operating system
  • Understanding of the open source development model and open source software solutions
  • Familiarity with Red Hat's portfolio of offerings and subscription business model
  • Certified Scrum Master, Six Sigma, PRINCE2, ITIL, MSPM, or Prosci certifications
