Job summary

The Red Hat OpenShift Engineering team is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join us in North Carolina or eastern time zone. In this role, you will be responsible for creating critical functionality for customer success and ongoing support of the features in releases of Red Hat OpenShift. You’ll need a background in computer science and experience with Go and at least one other object oriented programming language. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Develop features and bug fixes in Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShift within an agile team
  • Ensure that there are test plans for the code you create and that documentation is correct
  • Become responsible for our product quality, participate in peer code reviews, continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD), and respond to security threats
  • Act as an escalation point of contact for customer and internal teams
  • Participate in architectural discussions of system designs, programming interfaces, and inter-dependencies of control plane, operators, CI, etc., in the Kuberntes upstream communities and the Red Hat OpenShift project
  • Collaborate with other engineering teams on integrations

Required skills

  • Good understanding of Linux operating system
  • Knowledge of working with Go language
  • Demonstrable expertise in at least one of Go, Python, C, C++, Rust, or Ruby
  • Experience building and deploying container-based applications
  • Understanding of how open source and free software communities work
  • Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment

The following are a plus: 

  • Understanding Kubernetes architecture and internals
  • Experience troubleshooting complex issues in distributed systems
  • Experience with development for public cloud services like AWS, GCE, or Microsoft Azure
  • Ability to present to customers and stakeholders
