Job summary

Red Hat's Customer Identity and Access Management team is looking for a talented Senior Software Quality Engineer to join us. In this role, you will develop and champion quality and reliability engineering practices, tools, and frameworks. You will collaborate with a diverse and innovative team responsible for the key authentication, authorization, and user management service for Red Hat's open-hybrid cloud platform, sso.redhat.com, and its surrounding integrations. Your mission is one of an enabler, you will enable your peers to more rapidly deliver updates across frontend applications and backend services by codifying your expertise into reusable code, tools, and practices. As a Senior Software Quality Engineer, you will work with our partners in engineering and the upstream open source community to ensure a well-tested and rapidly released offering from upstream to redhat.com. You should be passionate about testing, but also about reading and writing code itself, especially when it's testable and, as a result, well-tested. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.

Primary job responsibilities

  • In collaboration with developers, develop practices, patterns, and reusable code to use to write and improve automated unit, UI, API, and performance tests
  • Help developers design better test cases; roadmap where to invest in test gaps and testing strategy
  • Maintain documentation of test processes and results to assist in debugging and development
  • Collaborate with developers in diagnosis and resolution of issues and defects
  • Extend testing into production by assisting in the development of monitors, observability instrumentation, and release automation

Required skills

  • 3+ years of experience with Java development
  • 2+ years of experience with test frameworks like JUnit and Selenium
  • 3+ years of experience with software verification for frontend and backend applications
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work within a distributed team
  • Experience developing and using software delivery pipelines, e.g., via Jenkins, GitHub actions, Tekton, etc.
  • Knowledge of SQL databases like MySQL or NoSQL databases, especially MongoDB
  • Experience working with distributed source control like Git, including branching and merging
  • Familiarity with both Maven and Gradle-based Java projects
  • Familiarity with performance testing
  • Familiarity with shell scripting tools like Bash
  • Ability to learn quickly and solve issues as they arise
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or another closely related field
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes or Linux Containers is a plus
