Job summary

The Red Hat Single Sign-On team is looking for a Manager, Software Engineer to join us. In this role, you will be part of the team responsible for developing and turning the Keycloak project into a product. Keycloak focuses on providing modern Identity and Access Management capabilities to application developers. You will work with different teams within Red Hat leveraging Red Hat Single Sign-On and the upstream Keycloak community. You’ll be responsible for a geographically distributed team of approximately 8 engineers, immersing yourself in the day-to-day work of the team, responding to their needs, and facilitating coaching and career development for your engineers. As a Manager, you’ll need to have a record of leading a team of highly skilled developers, solid knowledge of agile development processes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to guide technical discussions with architects and business teams. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business.



Primary job responsibilities

  • Serve as a people manager for your team with responsibility for establishing objectives, providing feedback, fostering career development, and providing active coaching of associates
  • Act as a technical focal point for the team, participate in regular planning and prioritization discussions.
  • Create, improve, and manage processes, tools, and techniques toward developer efficiency and productivity
  • Work with product management, engineering teams, and other key stakeholders to develop technology roadmaps and schedules; communicate these schedules and coordinate delivery

Required skills

  • Experience as a technical manager, building and managing teams
  • Technical background in software development; the ability to understand technical requirements and communicate with authority at a technical level
  • Java programming experience; experience with development of Java EE applications
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with the ability to interact comfortably with other members of a large, geographically distributed team
  • Ability to serve as a facilitator for team-based discussions
  • Passion for open source software
  • Proven ability to work under minimal supervision

The following are considered a plus:

  • Good understanding of core concepts related to application security 
  • Familiarity with modern token based application security standards like OAuth2 and OpenID Connect
  • Familiarity or direct experience with Keycloak or other Red Hat Application Services technologies
