Job summary

The Red Hat Business Unit is looking for an OpenStack Consultant to join us. In this role, you will be responsible for problem identification, system architecture definition, software specification, and the design, testing, and deployment of complex open source solutions.

Primary job responsibilities

  • Be responsible for implementing and integrating Red Hat’s open hybrid cloud technologies
  • Collaborate with project and customer team members to meet timelines and goals; contribute to project documentation and diagrams, including quality assurance (QA) and ticket and bug management 
  • Develop and implement automation and integration for our customers’s cloud and system infrastructure solutions; work with senior associates to guide adoption of automation techniques  
  • Develop operations processes to improve the cloud life cycle; design and advocate solutions using cloud technologies, design principles, integration points, and automation methods 
  • Promote the adoption of solutions with Red Hat’s key enterprise accounts, government agencies, and service provider partners 
  • Conduct remote and in-person visits with customer’s engineering, development, and operations teams to align their software requirements and use cases to the functional capabilities of our solutions 
  • Bring together cross-functional teams from Red Hat’s product, product engineering, support, professional services, and sales teams to meet the needs of our most demanding customers 
  • Work with customers, Red Hat support, and other consultants on technical issues and maintain detailed documentation 
  • Review technical requirements from customers and plan enhancements around deployment of Red Hat software as part of customers' solution 
  • Create an engagement journal that tracks all consulting activities and engagements 
  • Install Red Hat Software for the customers in accordance to demands and requested requirements
  • Be responsible for performance tuning and maintenance of Red Hat software 
  • Mentor customers on using Red Hat software

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in computer science, electrical engineering, information systems, or related and 2+ years of experience in the job offered or related role 
  • 2+ years of experience with: Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or other Linux distributions, like  Fedora, Centos, Ubuntu, or Oracle Linux; communicating value, progress, and metrics of key technology projects to a diverse audience of stakeholders; OpenStack Cloud software architecture; working in a strategic advisory capacity with senior IT and business executives; completing virtualization projects in the customer environment; contributing lessons learned, best practices, and how-tos to internal and external communities of practice; and network function virtualization (NFV) in telecommunication industry customer environments 
  • Willingness to travel up to 75%  to various and unanticipated customer sites; all travel expenses will be covered by Red Hat
